Yoga Styles
There are so many different styles: vinyasa, hatha, hot yoga, ashtanga, gentle, vigorous, restorative, etc. These are just some of the styles you may hear about. Some yoga classes are purely focused on physical practice, others a combination with meditation practice, karma yoga, etc.
When one decides to 'do yoga', they often have an image in their mind, of what that class will be like and of what they hope to get from it. Some want to get in shape and others to de-stress. Some want to learn meditation practices. To add to the dilemna, my experience has been that every teacher brings a whole different essence to a class even if they teach the same style. Some people try a yoga class - maybe not like it and shut the door on yoga saying it just wasn't for them. But, it might not have been the right fit for them at that time.
I've tried classes that are extremely gentle and went back because at the end I realized both mind and body found their way to calm state of blissfulness. I've tried classes that were so physically challenging I thought I could never do it but went back because my mind and body found their way to calm state of blissfulness.
Yoga is a process of moving the body in ways that allow prana to move through it to unblock knots, purify and open . This process can take many different forms but the outcome can be amazingly similar. Ultimately, yoga is a state that one reaches through a practice that is right for them. You are your own teacher but also, when you are open to it, you will find the helping teacher right for you on your journey at the right time.
I am happy to help you find the right style for you or to suggest options in this area for various teachers.
